Lace Hearts

A nice, easy idea. Roll gently over the lace - thinner clay will take a better impression. Would look great with clear glaze and a red ribbon.

Clay Chihuly Bowls

Once again I have been lucky enough to attend a Clay PD at a fellow art teacher's school. Its been a great way to get some great new clay projects ideas! This project used a draping technique to create some Chihuly inspired clay bowls...

Hand Paintings

This end of term activity was a big hit with my Year 4/5 extension class. We used some photos of animal hand paintings for reference and then just had a go. I absolutely love the resulting photographs!

Inspired By Stormie Mills

Stormie Mills is a well known artist in Perth, Western Australia, and a favourite of mine. See his style of work on his website We worked with charcoal to create a Stormie Mills inspired character. I love the results!!

Plaster Masks

This was a project done with my Year 4-5 extension class. We used plaster bandage over plastic face molds to create the masks. These were then mounted onto a cardboard backing. From there, the kids went nuts with painting and decorating. Luckily there were no major hot glue injuries!

Clay Snails

I completed this project with a class of ESL students, ranging from Year 4 to Year 6. We made our snails, decorated them with different textures and patterns, bisque fired them, glazed them and then fired them for a second time. To finish them off, we added pipe cleaner antennae! Artists work shown: Elle, YiChen, Yuri and Irin.

Giraffes Can't Dance

I bought the book, 'Giraffes Can't Dance' by Giles Andreae, many years ago for my son and always loved the illustrations. This week I used it as inspiration for a project with my Year 3's. It is a great way to introduce how to create tonal gradients when painting with ink and their dancing giraffes were just gorgeous! The following photos show the step by step process of how we created our artworks. Student sample will be posted soon.
